SUMMARY:Werewolves of High Park: Moon Walk
DESCRIPTION:Ah-hooooooo! Werewolves of High Park! We saw a werewolf with a Grenadier Café menu in their hand walking through the Black Oak Savannah in the rain. They’re howling around the Nature Centre’s door\, but we won’t let them in. \nUnder the October full moon\, we’ll bravely venture into the park to learn about the origins of the Moon\, its influences on life\, and the lunar legends of mythology and haunting horror stories. \nNote: This is an encore presentation of September’s Moon Walk in High Park but with a spooky twist. \n  \nThis event will begin at the High Park Nature Centre’s Forest School building located at 375 Colborne Lodge Drive. \nA number of changes were made to the travel network within High Park as part of the High Park Movement Strategy that might influence your decision to drive to High Park. In case you’re driving we strongly recommend you to park your car at the public parking lot near Grenadier Cafe. \nWe continue to recommend using the TTC or biking as the best way to get to High Park and the Nature Centre. The Nature Centre is situated just a 5-minute walk from the High Park Subway Station. In case you were biking\, there are bike racks available in front of the Nature Centre. \nPlease note\, High Park is closed to cars on the weekends. If your event is on a weekend\, you will need to park outside the park and walk in\, or take transit. \nVisit our How To Get Here page to learn more about planning your trips to High Park.

SUMMARY:Birding 101 on October Big Day
DESCRIPTION:Looking to get into birding? Join us for a beginner-friendly birding walk on a global day for birding and community science. \nWe’ll start the afternoon with an introduction to using binoculars (limited pairs are available to borrow from the Nature Centre)\, the basics on identifying a new-to-you bird species\, and how to find them ethically. Then\, we’ll head out into the park\, practice our bird watching skills\, and participate in community science by submitting our species checklist to eBird\, a worldwide database of birders’ observations. \n  \nOctober Big Day is a global opportunity to unite around our shared love of birds. During this annual event organized by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology\, birdwatchers from around the world come together to document as many bird species as possible in a 24-hour period. Last October\, nearly 36\,000 people from 191 countries submitted more than 83\,000 checklists with eBird\, demonstrating the power of birds to bring people together. Each year more and more participants join in this global celebration. \nWherever you are on 12 October\, take a few minutes to join in this global celebration. Participate from anywhere—even from home! By taking part in October Big Day you’re also celebrating Global Bird Weekend and World Migratory Bird Day. SUMMARY:Raining Cows by Morgan Sheardown
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Morgan Sheardown featuring his existing works and new creations. \nMorgan’s body of work expresses the inspiration he gets from rain\, color\, and his appreciation of cows. He uses rain as a filter to distort and create different levels of abstraction. The cows are graphic however\, his work is painted on layers to the feeling of rain. \n  \nMorgan’s body of work\, “Raining Cows”\, expresses his inspiration from rain\, color\, and his appreciation of cows. He uses rain as a filter to distort and create different levels of abstraction. The cows are graphic however\, his work is painted on layers to the feeling of rain. One can actually see the layers and splashes of rain creating a 3D like floating effect. The colors\, the clouds\, the rain and the graphic application all come together to create a happy and calming effect. In these stressful and turbulent times\, Morgan wants “Raining Cows”\, to make people happy and to make them smile. However\, Morgan also looks to “Raining Cows” as his symbol of triumph\, withstanding the storms of his life. The widespread popularity of Morgan’s work has been translated into fashion\, interior design and the latest revolution of the art world\, NFT’s.

SUMMARY:Hike Haliburton Festival
DESCRIPTION:Popularly known as Haliburton Highlands\, the county of Haliburton\, comprised of Algonquin Highlands\, Dysart et al\, Highlands East\, and Minden Hills\, is an extremely popular destination to enjoy the fall season with tree canopy ranging from deep green to soft hues of yellow and gold to bright reds depending on the time and place (type of trees present) of your visit. \nWhile hot\, warm summers will lead to fall colors appearing later in the season (well into October)\, cooler summers will see fall colors peaking much before Thanksgiving weekend. \nThe fall colors that you see will also vary depending on the tree. Maple trees turn auburn because their leaves are rich in anthocyanins\, a compound responsible for the glorious hues of red color. Poplar\, Birch and Tamarack (larch) trees have carotenoids and xanthophylls\, resulting in yellow\, gold and orange leaf color hues. \n\nFall in Love With Maple: Taste & Hike Through Brilliant Colors of Fall at Ontario Maple Farms\n\nAround the fourth weekend of September\, Haliburton Tourism organizes a hiking festival (2023 – September 21 to 24). Hike Haliburton Festival is Canada’s largest hiking festival and includes guided hikes and various Fall themed experiences. \nWhile you have to register for the guided hikes\, you can always head to Haliburton anytime from mid-September to late October/early November to enjoy nature during the Fall season. \n  \nAs of March 2024\, the price of the ticket is not yet available.
