SUMMARY:Alex Da Corte: Ear Worm (A captivating mix of exhibitions that merge interdisciplinary art\, storytelling\, and social commentary)
DESCRIPTION:Bring your curiosity – this season promises a captivating mix of exhibitions that merge interdisciplinary art\, storytelling\, and social commentary. Awaiting visitors on MOCA’s second floor is a dreamlike environment envisioned by Venezuelan American artist Alex Da Corte. Vivid and surreal\, Da Corte’s art is culled from popular culture\, sexuality\, violence\, cinema\, children’s literature\, and art and design history\, lending his work a certain familiarity. Within his wild imagination\, however\, popular symbols are stretched\, shrunken\, and softened\, opening new ways of interpreting them and their cultural significance. \n  \nAwaiting visitors on Floor 2 is a dreamlike environment envisioned by Venezuelan American artist Alex Da Corte. Vivid and surreal\, Da Corte’s work draws from areas of popular culture\, sexuality\, violence\, cinema\, children’s literature\, and art and design history. His work feels familiar\, yet popular symbols are stretched\, shrunken\, and softened\, inviting us to see things we recognize in new ways and re-evaluate their cultural significance. \nMoving image works are often at the centre of Da Corte’s installations. Playing both director and leading actor in his sleekly executed films\, the artist morphs into his subjects\, fashioning himself into characters like Mister Rogers\, Sleeping Beauty\, Marcel Duchamp\, and the Wicked Witch of the West. By becoming the characters who taught us right from wrong or good from evil\, Da Corte challenges us to rethink the stories and protagonists we love or despise. \nFor MOCA\, Da Corte has reimagined his 2018 film Rubber Pencil Devil across several large-scale multicolor rear-projection cubes. This immersive work appears alongside the Mouse Museum (Van Gogh Ear)\, a newly realized work and intimate experience that invites viewers into Da Corte’s wildly creative mind. The interior of the structure is dark\, with an illuminated vitrine spanning the walls like a film strip. It’s “life as a moving image\,” Da Corte notes. \n  \nSchedule:\nEvery Wednesday\, 11:00 pm – 6:00 am\nEvery Thursday\, 11:00 pm – 6:00 am\nEvery Friday\, 11:00 pm – 6:00 am\nEvery Saturday\, 11:00 pm – 6:00 am\nEvery Sunday\, 11:00 pm – 6:00 am

SUMMARY:Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo
DESCRIPTION:The 2024 Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo is back this September! The picturesque ride starts and finishes at the St. Eugene Golf Resort & Casino\, where there’s plenty of space for riders to park in the freshly harvested fields next to the festival tent. In the early dawn light\, water bottles are topped up\, race numbers are secured to the bikes and hundreds of pairs of padded bike shorts are put on before heading to the festival tent for the continental breakfast. With bellies full of carbs and protein\, the riders head for the start line in front of the old brick missionary-turned hotel. \nLike many Gran Fondo events\, the Kootenay Rockies Gran Fondo offers three distances. \nThe Gran Fondo is 152 km using the paved North Star Rails to Trails path to quickly arrive in Kimberley B.C. where the first fueling station is located in the Platzl. While the cheers of spectators echo through town\, the riders pedal north along the Kimberley Highway\, rolling through farmland and forest until it reaches Highway 95 where excellent views of the Kooteney River are on the right. Cranbrook may be a short distance away\, but this is where the big guns take a hard left and ride the peaceful Wardner Fort Steele Road for an extra 50 km before returning to Highway 95 for a few more steep climbs including the King and Queen of the Mountain competition before descending into the valley and onto Mission Road to St. Eugene. \n  \nThe Medio Fondo is 102 km\, also utilizing the same route as the Gran. North Star Rails to Trails > Kimberley B.C. > Kimberley Highway > Highway 95\nTremendous views accompany riders throughout the journey. The Medio follows the same route as the Gran but skips the Wardner Fort Steele out-and-back. \n  \nThe delightful Piccolo Fondo is 58 km using the North Star Rails to Trails to reach the Platzl and return the same way. Riders using E-bikes and families are all invited to participate. Every route is surrounded by spectacular scenery using roads with wide shoulders and a minimal amount of traffic. \nWhat Every Rider Receives \n\nA heck of a lot of fun\nRide the most scenic roads in the Kootenays\nContinental Breakfast – who doesn’t like breakfast?\nA fully supported and traffic-controlled ride\nA Dri-fit T-shirt or rider hat\nMobile Mechanical support throughout the duration of the ride. SUMMARY:Hike Haliburton Festival
DESCRIPTION:Popularly known as Haliburton Highlands\, the county of Haliburton\, comprised of Algonquin Highlands\, Dysart et al\, Highlands East\, and Minden Hills\, is an extremely popular destination to enjoy the fall season with tree canopy ranging from deep green to soft hues of yellow and gold to bright reds depending on the time and place (type of trees present) of your visit. \nWhile hot\, warm summers will lead to fall colors appearing later in the season (well into October)\, cooler summers will see fall colors peaking much before Thanksgiving weekend. \nThe fall colors that you see will also vary depending on the tree. Maple trees turn auburn because their leaves are rich in anthocyanins\, a compound responsible for the glorious hues of red color. Poplar\, Birch and Tamarack (larch) trees have carotenoids and xanthophylls\, resulting in yellow\, gold and orange leaf color hues. \n\nFall in Love With Maple: Taste & Hike Through Brilliant Colors of Fall at Ontario Maple Farms\n\nAround the fourth weekend of September\, Haliburton Tourism organizes a hiking festival (2023 – September 21 to 24). Hike Haliburton Festival is Canada’s largest hiking festival and includes guided hikes and various Fall themed experiences. \nWhile you have to register for the guided hikes\, you can always head to Haliburton anytime from mid-September to late October/early November to enjoy nature during the Fall season. \n  \nAs of March 2024\, the price of the ticket is not yet available.

SUMMARY:Raining Cows by Morgan Sheardown
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Morgan Sheardown featuring his existing works and new creations. \nMorgan’s body of work expresses the inspiration he gets from rain\, color\, and his appreciation of cows. He uses rain as a filter to distort and create different levels of abstraction. The cows are graphic however\, his work is painted on layers to the feeling of rain. \n  \nMorgan’s body of work\, “Raining Cows”\, expresses his inspiration from rain\, color\, and his appreciation of cows. He uses rain as a filter to distort and create different levels of abstraction. The cows are graphic however\, his work is painted on layers to the feeling of rain. One can actually see the layers and splashes of rain creating a 3D like floating effect. The colors\, the clouds\, the rain and the graphic application all come together to create a happy and calming effect. In these stressful and turbulent times\, Morgan wants “Raining Cows”\, to make people happy and to make them smile. However\, Morgan also looks to “Raining Cows” as his symbol of triumph\, withstanding the storms of his life. The widespread popularity of Morgan’s work has been translated into fashion\, interior design and the latest revolution of the art world\, NFT’s.
