SUMMARY:Holiday Hackathon 2024
DESCRIPTION:We’re excited to host our first annual Holiday Hackathon at The Amazing Brentwood. As part of our 2024 Hacking for the Holidays campaign\, on Friday\, November 22nd\, we’re going to switch adapt 250 toys to donate to kids with disabilities in Canada. And we need your help to do it! \nThroughout the day\, volunteers will be working in two-hour shifts to adapt toys and build switches. Never done anything like this before? Don’t worry\, no prior experience working with tools or electronics is required — we’ll walk you through every step. Everyone is welcome. \nWhy is this so important?\nEvery child deserves to play. But for many kids with disabilities\, toys can be hard to use independently\, and commercially adapted versions can run upwards of $300. However\, with a little bit of tinkering\, we can switch-adapt toys and make them accessible for a fraction of the cost. \nThe Holiday Hackathon is part of our Hacking for the Holidays campaign. From September to December\, we’re engaging volunteers — students\, corporate partners\, and other community members — in 80 build events across 10 provinces to help us adapt and donate 2\,000 toys and switches to families and clinicians all over Canada.

SUMMARY:Dancing with the Shuswap Stars 2024
DESCRIPTION:The 2024 Dancing with the Shuswap Stars party is going to shine even more brightly this fall with a new line-up of community-minded dancers willing to perform a dance routine on behalf of the Shuswap Hospice Society. \nThe evening’s program will be similar to the Dancing with the Stars television show\, and also includes breaks for open dancing\, gourmet charcuterie boxes\, a cash bar and loads of entertainment. \n\n\n\n\nCome and see the amazing dancers show their moves all to benefit hospice! \n  \n\n\nDancing with the Shuswap Stars was initially conceived as a fundraiser for the Larch Hills Nordic Society chalet expansion. The first annual event was held in 2016 and was a smashing success. Plans were quickly made for a sequel the following year. Demand for tickets in 2017 was so high that tickets sold out the day they were made available! \nIn 2018\, with the chalet expansion well underway\, the decision was made to partner with the Shuswap Hospice Society. All profits from the event will be split between LHNS and the Shuswap Hospice Society.

SUMMARY:Werewolves of High Park: Moon Walk
DESCRIPTION:Ah-hooooooo! Werewolves of High Park! We saw a werewolf with a Grenadier Café menu in their hand walking through the Black Oak Savannah in the rain. They’re howling around the Nature Centre’s door\, but we won’t let them in. \nUnder the October full moon\, we’ll bravely venture into the park to learn about the origins of the Moon\, its influences on life\, and the lunar legends of mythology and haunting horror stories. \nNote: This is an encore presentation of September’s Moon Walk in High Park but with a spooky twist. \n  \nThis event will begin at the High Park Nature Centre’s Forest School building located at 375 Colborne Lodge Drive. \nA number of changes were made to the travel network within High Park as part of the High Park Movement Strategy that might influence your decision to drive to High Park. In case you’re driving we strongly recommend you to park your car at the public parking lot near Grenadier Cafe. \nWe continue to recommend using the TTC or biking as the best way to get to High Park and the Nature Centre. The Nature Centre is situated just a 5-minute walk from the High Park Subway Station. In case you were biking\, there are bike racks available in front of the Nature Centre. \nPlease note\, High Park is closed to cars on the weekends. If your event is on a weekend\, you will need to park outside the park and walk in\, or take transit. \nVisit our How To Get Here page to learn more about planning your trips to High Park.

SUMMARY:Raining Cows by Morgan Sheardown
DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce a solo exhibition by Morgan Sheardown featuring his existing works and new creations. \nMorgan’s body of work expresses the inspiration he gets from rain\, color\, and his appreciation of cows. He uses rain as a filter to distort and create different levels of abstraction. The cows are graphic however\, his work is painted on layers to the feeling of rain. \n  \nMorgan’s body of work\, “Raining Cows”\, expresses his inspiration from rain\, color\, and his appreciation of cows. He uses rain as a filter to distort and create different levels of abstraction. The cows are graphic however\, his work is painted on layers to the feeling of rain. One can actually see the layers and splashes of rain creating a 3D like floating effect. The colors\, the clouds\, the rain and the graphic application all come together to create a happy and calming effect. In these stressful and turbulent times\, Morgan wants “Raining Cows”\, to make people happy and to make them smile. However\, Morgan also looks to “Raining Cows” as his symbol of triumph\, withstanding the storms of his life. The widespread popularity of Morgan’s work has been translated into fashion\, interior design and the latest revolution of the art world\, NFT’s.
